When I open the box I was disappointed to find it was an oval shaped bucket.I read the review of other ice cream makers and saw all the complaints about the makers with oval buckets getting stuck so I didn't order one of those.I should have read between the lines, because the description of the Jarden (which is the same as Rival which has some of the lowest ratings - didn't know that until after I received it too) didn't say anything about the bucket being oval, I assumed it was round.
We have used it 4 times now and only had it stick once.I think the problem is the rock salt getting stuck. We used Kosher salt a couple of time with no problem.
So far we have not had the motor stop because the ice cream was done.We run it 45 min to 1 hour and finally stop because we get bored watching it spin. The ice cream is not firm but good enough to eat then put in the freezer. We have been making ice cream for over 45 years and have never not had the ice cream freeze completely. The only difference is this is my first experience with a plastic bucket instead of wood.I love the 6 quart can - means more for me!
We'll keep trying!
